2009 Awards
Members of the band celebrated in style the achievements of 2009 at The Vale of Glamorgan Resort on Saturday night.
We enjoyed the time to relax and reflect on what has been achieved in the band's 125th Anniversary year. Each player received individual awards for the contest successes throughout the year. The results for the Player of the Year and Member of the Year were announced following votes by all members of the Band.
IAN WILLIAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2009
Gwyn comes home!

Cory are pleased to announce the appointment of Gwyn Thomas as Contest Secretary.
Gwyn was a playing member of Cory for 40 years and played Soprano for 25 years.
During Gwyn’s playing career he won: Granada Band of the Year, BBC Band of the Year, Cory’s first National win in 1974, The European title in 1980 and most significantly the hat-trick of National Championship wins in 1982-83-84.
Ian is to step down
Principal cornet Ian Williams will be leaving the band at the end of the year.
Ian has served Cory as principal cornet for twenty years, and in that time has led the band to victory at all the major competitions.
Ian is an employee of the South Wales Fire Service and since receiving promotion eighteen months ago has found the balance between band, work and home difficult.
Bob Childs paid tribute to Ian, saying: "Ian is a model bandsman and a truly great cornet player.

David and Sian Danford were married at St. John's Church in Pool Quay near Welshpool mid-Wales on Sunday 27th September.
The reception took place at Sweeney Hall, Oswestry.
As expected, Cory members played a few oft he star roles: Simon Howell was the best man and Simon Brittlebank acted as Usher.
Titanic recording
The band is going into the studio on Monday to put the finishing touches to a rather special CD.
The recording includes the first studio recordings of Jan van der Roost's From Ancient Times, Peter Graham's On the Shoulders of Giants and Hermann Pallhuber's Titan's Progress.

Rob joins the team
We are delighted to welcome Robert Graham-White to our Bass section.
Rob's musical career began when he took up the trumpet at the age of nine. Discovering that the trumpet was not for him, his brass instruments grew as he did, eventually settling on the tuba.
Rob started his banding in 2006 and enjoyed the successes with Newbridge Celynen Band, also performing with Tredegar Town Band and The Flowers Band.

The following was taken from the website of the Rhondda Leader.
THE Vintage Cory Band consists of ex-members from all over the Rhondda Valleys. Here some of them tell their stories
BROTHERS Jeff and Graham Sheppard, from Treherbert, both played for the Cory Band during the hugely successful 1970s and 1980s.
