2009 Awards
Members of the band celebrated in style the achievements of 2009 at The Vale of Glamorgan Resort on Saturday night.
We enjoyed the time to relax and reflect on what has been achieved in the band's 125th Anniversary year. Each player received individual awards for the contest successes throughout the year. The results for the Player of the Year and Member of the Year were announced following votes by all members of the Band.
IAN WILLIAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2009
Ian Williams was named Player of the year for 2009 and is pictured with his array of trophies. This was an emotional evening for Ian after recently retiring as Principal Cornet of the band after 20 years service. Not only did he receive this award but the band also presented Ian with a cornet that he has played for numerous years which was inscribed with all Ian's major contest wins. A well deserved award after his service to the band for so long and delivering so many exceptional performances.
JOHN TROTMAN BAND MEMBER OF THE YEAR 2009
John Trotman the band's Librarian was named member of the year. John's contrinued service to the band is incredible and even through times of illness this year, John has bounced back and continues to organise the mountain of music that the band performs. John has been a major source of information for the book on the history of the Cory Band that has been compiled over the course of this year and it will be released in 2010. A member of the Trotman family has been part of the band for nearly 100 years. John is pictured above with Bob enjoying our recent Mass Band performance at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea. A deserved winner as member of the year.
All members had a great time and would like to thank John Southcombe, David Childs, Alun Horgan & Owen Farr for organising and co-ordinating the whole event. Their efforts certainly made it one to remember and fitting for such an important year in the band's history.
Now the band have a short break over the Christmas period and start all over again in the first week in January preparing for a CD recording the following weekend.
Merry Christmas Everyone from all at Cory
