Our Baritone Section

Susan Thomas - 1st Baritone
 
Susan started playing cornet at the age of 8 in the local school under the guidance of Mr Richard Nash. She joined Hymac Band in 1977 on 3rd cornet then moving on to 2nd Horn and stayed with the band until the band folded in 1981.
 
She was a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales from 1985-'89, sharing the Solo Horn stand with former Cory Solo Horn Mike Thorne. Susan then joined BTM Band under the baton of Mr James Gourlay, changing from Horn to 2nd Baritone, as it was the only vacancy in the band at the time!
 
Susan discovered that she was more suited to the Tenor range of the instrument and quick progress resulted in a move onto 1st Baritone. 1990 saw an interlude spent in New Zealand, the highlights of which was gaining  a prize in their National Solo Championships. In 1996 Susan joined the Tredegar Band, becoming their Player of the Year in 1999. She joined Cory in 2000 and has forged a reputation as one of the most reliable and naturally gifted players in the band.
